The Art of Shopping

It’s a brand new year, and Lark is celebrating by featuring a bevy of great new art-inspired products from some companies we are excited to welcome into our space.

For that metropolitan-minded guy or gal on the go, there’s no better accessory than one of the beautiful items from Studio Manhattan. From vibrantly colorful thin leather wallets, card holders and wall prints to handsome canvas messenger bags and leather crossbody wrislets, the merchandise from this NYC-based boutique depicts famous locales around the world (New York! L.A.! Paris!) as seen through the eyes of the company’s founder, Turkish photojournalist Ayhan Kimsesizcan, who fell in love with the hustle and bustle of Manhattan and harnessed that love into his own little empire. But you don’t have to be a Manhattanite or other city-dweller to fall in love with any of these products: Whether you’re a country mouse or a city mouse, we’re sure you’ll love them as much as we do!

Speaking of Manhattan, one of the city’s must-see attractions for any art-lover is surely the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art. But in case you’re not able to make it into the city anytime soon, we’ve got a great selection of some of their super-cool signature products. The magnets, mugs, coasters and T-shirts in their “History of Art” line trace the lineage in the art movement all the way from Da Vinci to Warhol, and provide a sense of whimsy to the home of anyone who considers themselves a creative soul or a lover of creativity.

Home décor fanatics may recognize the products made by Voluspa from the many editorial layouts they’ve been featured in. The company was started in the kitchen of Troy and Traci Arntsen, an art-hungry husband and wife duo who combined Traci’s knowledge of botany and Troy’s background in engineering to create their first clean burning and potently fragrant candle in 1999. Since then, they’ve harnessed that experience into a boutique business known for its striking, artistic packaging and extraordinary, soothing scents, offering an experience that’s so sublime it’s almost spiritual.

For a more earthbound experience of art, try a “three-in-one” set from the Hudson Valley Seed Library, which packages an array of heirloom and open-pollinated garden seeds in garden-themed contemporary art-laden envelopes that can then be delivered via recycled butterfly envelopes. Whether you’re planting the Kaleidoscope Carrots or the Cosmonaut Volkov Tomatoes or looking to harvest some Little Gem Lettuce, you’re sure to find a seed that gives your green thumb some exercise and makes your homemade dishes even more delicious.

Happy New Year to all our customers, and hope to see you in the store soon!
